Who else starts to sweat when they think about writing a blog post for their business? Do you suddenly remember the other stuff you absolutely have to do first, like take out the trash or reorganize your pens and paper clips?
But it doesn’t have to be that way; you can learn to write simple blog posts for your business that will interest your readers while sharing useful information. Stay with me here while we walk through the steps to create a blog post!
Think about who you are writing for, who is your audience? What does he/she want to know? What can you share with them that will be interesting and useful?
What do you want them to learn from your post?
Decide on a topic and then research anything you need to know as the writer. For example, a life coach may want to write about how to cope with stress so she may start her draft copy by listing everything she already knows, and then researching the topic for additional information.
Gather and organize your research information into an outline that flows and makes sense.
Step 4 (perhaps the most difficult if you don’t like writing)
Write! Don’t agonize here, just write, let it flow.
You will be coming back to it later to edit.
Research free images to add interest to your blog post.
(Some of my favorite free image sites are Unsplash, Photopin, Pixabay and Picjumbo)
Insert your images into your blog post, check the layout for both desktop and mobile previews. At this point it’s editing time, check spelling and grammar, and then go have a coffee. Come back to your post an hour or two later and reread it. This will give you fresh eyes and the ability to further edit your post if needed.
