The most recent Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey reports there were 950,000 self-employed women in Canada in 2011, accounting for about one third of all self-employed persons, and I would venture to say that number has grown again since 2011.
Women make great business owners and leaders. Creative and thoughtful, women take the time to evaluate before making crucial decisions. By nature women are more persuasive then their male counterparts, are good team players and collaborators, and generally love a challenge! One study I read asked women what their top reasons for starting a business were. The top 2 reasons: independent work and making ideas happen! So what personality traits help women to undertake the challenge of starting and running a business?
An article in the Business Insider reported on a study that was done to identify the personality traits of successful women in business. The study revealed that the following 6 personality traits were associated with high performance and success:
These traits may come naturally to some women, others may be enhanced or nurtured as a woman in business grows alongside her venture. I believe all of these qualities can be learned and practiced.
Do you see these traits in yourself or a female colleague? Which traits do you exhibit naturally and which ones do you want to develop? Leave a comment!
I appreciate your support; thanks for reading and commenting!
