2020 has been shaking up our hearts and souls. Losing people you love, or reflecting on those who are no longer a part of your life, causes a heart to quake. And yet we can heal through the loss, the grief and the sadness when we practice allowing and feeling and forgiveness, of ourselves and of others.
shaking at your roots
rising to the surface
pebbles, rocks and stones
that surprise you with their weight
didn’t you bury those a long while ago?
Those pebbles of sadness and misplaced anger
The stones heavy with regret and expectations
You pick each one up
peering down at them
laying in the palm of your heart.
They are stained with
old misunderstandings and misgivings,
bound to the loved ones no longer present in your life
you cry and wish that
what you know now…you knew then
that what you feel now…you could have felt then
You let your tears of sorrow wash the past
turning the stones over and over in your heart
wondering what to do with them
hide them…throw them far far away…re-bury them?
Instead….you hold them
Examine them, embrace them
the rough and broken edges
offering a gift of understanding
and they begin to dissolve in a pool of
Love, compassion, hope and reconciliation
you acknowledge each stone with gratitude
and a prayer of forgiveness
as you place them back into
the waiting ground at your centre
with hope that one day
you will meet your loved ones again
for the first time
